December 14, Wayne City FCCLA hosted a cookie decorating activity at the Wayne City First Christian Church for the children in the surrounding community. This event has been very successful for the Wayne City FCCLA for many years. Around 50 kids participated in the cookie decorating activity and had a great time doing so. Turnout was a little lower than normal due to heavy rains and the cancellation of the Christmas parade.
Almost all of this year’s FCCLA members love helping kids have fun and decorate cookies. Club members enjoy seeing the kids use their imagination and creativity to make the cookies look exactly how they want them.
This is probably my favorite community service project we do all year. It is super fun to interact with the children and see how creative they get while decorating their cookies, said Vice President Lily Barbre.
Planning for this activity is not easy, but it is very rewarding. FCCLA sponsor and coordinator, Laura Miller, planned this community service event as she has been doing for over 20 years.
We were looking forward to cookie decorating this year. We always enjoy providing the kids with cookies and decorating supplies, but a favorite is always interacting with the kids! This year we did not have very many kids due to the parade being cancelled but we had a great time with the kids that did show up. With the extra cookies and supplies, we donated them to the Wayne City kindergarten classes, said Miller.
