Thursday, February 14, the Wayne City High School basketball team, cheerleading team and band had their senior night. Each year, the cheerleaders perform a halftime show during the varsity game with their parent of choice. Between the junior varsity and varsity games, the seniors were recognized for their hard work and talent. The emotions were high, and the seniors knew they wanted to win. The parents had to learn a group routine and a duet with their daughter. The girls also did a dance with their Coach, Kelsey Gregory, as it was her last year coaching. The parents had their last rehearsal during the beginning of the varsity game.
The WCHS Indians basketball team faced the NCOE Cardinals. Jacob Thomason said, “It was very bittersweet playing my last home game. The next time I am at a high school boys game I will be in the stands. It was very exciting to go out and spend my last game at home with all the guys I’ve spent countless hours with on the court.”
Before the girls came out with their parents, the WCHS band played a few songs. The senior band members knew this was a hard moment, as it was their last time playing in pep band. Senior band member, Kane Borah stated, “It was a memorable time to play with the pep band for the past four years. It was a fun and bittersweet moment.”
At the varsity game half time, the cheerleaders ran onto the floor with their parents. They started by doing a few popular TikTok dances, then went into their duet line. The girls went in line from freshman to seniors, and then it was time to dance with their coach. Haley Shelton said, “I absolutely loved dancing with Kelsey! She has been such an amazing coach these past two years and I could not be more thankful for her on and off the sidelines. She made me and my senior girls senior night so memorable!”
