The Red Ribbon Team is a high school organization that wants to help make the school a better environment, and to raise awareness for drug and alcohol use. It is led by the high school’s guidance counselor, Jenna Talbert. Almost every kid in the high school is a part of the Red Ribbon Team. Every school year, the red ribbon team does many different activities, mostly for the high school, but some for the younger kids as well. Some of the activities they do include Red Ribbon Month and Stupid Cupid. Red Ribbon Month is in the month of October, it is the drug awareness month. On every Friday of the month of October, there are school dress up days, and some days activities that go along with drug awareness. Stupid Cupid takes place on February 14, or Valentines Day every school year. On this day, the members of the Red Ribbon Team vote for one or two seniors on the team to be Cupid; Cupid then goes around and “shoots” the other high schoolers. After a student is “shot” they are not allowed to speak for the rest of the day. The students really enjoy the different activities that the Red Ribbon Team puts together.
Red Ribbon Team member, Samantha McCulley, stated, “I like being able to help out with Mrs. Talbert, and working with kids at the picnics. I really have fun planning the events that we take part in.” Talbert is proud of the work that the Red Ribbon Team has done. She spoke about the picnic that the Red Ribbon Team put together saying, “I think the Red Ribbon Team did a fantastic job with meeting the kids as they came out for lunch and made sure the kids found their parents, or they sat with the students and ate with them.”
