Greenlea Vaughan has played girls’ basketball her entire high school career at Wayne City. She is a starting point guard for the Wayne City Lady Indians and devotes a ton of her time on and off the court to her team and the sport she loves. She reached 1000 career points on February 5, and her team was playing against Murphysboro High School. She is the seventh Wayne City Lady Indian in the school’s history to make 1000 points. During this game, she made a total of 27 points.
Vaughan says, “Scoring my one thousandth point was a big accomplishment for me especially considering only seven girls from Wayne City have achieved that goal. I am definitely grateful that I had encouragement from my teammates and coaches along the way.” Of those coaches and teammates Vaughan mentioned, her coach Hunter Clark was a huge supporter.
Clark says, “Coaching these young ladies this past year was a lot of fun. Helping them develop their individual basketball skills and just hanging out with their wonderful selves. A highlight for our team this year was helping Greenlea Vaughan to get her 1000 points. Coming together as a team for this goal shows great character and determination from each one of them. I’m very proud to be their coach, of all their hard work this season, and very happy for Greenlea achieving this milestone.”
Vaughan’s season high in points for her senior year was 43 points against Hardin County on January. Vaughan has had a great career as a Wayne City Lady Indian and no one can wait to see where she goes from here.
