In front of the home crowd on September 13, senior Dawson Wood pitched a perfect game against Agape, leading his team to a 12-0 victory. Wood said, “I might have thrown a perfect game, but keep in mind nobody is perfect.” A perfect game means no opposing player reaches base- no hits, no walks, and no errors. The team cut the game short, ending at the fourth inning, with their consistent offense and defense. The coach, Jaxon King, was very pleased with Wood and the rest of the team. King said, “He threw really well, kept the batters guessing, and we backed him up with strong defense. I am proud of his accomplishments and the team’s efforts.” The catcher, senior Dutch Peyton, was also grateful for Wood’s effort and success. Peyton said, “He finally decided to listen for once.”
The Indians finished their season with a 5-8 record, earning wins over Brownstown, Agape, Odin, Cobden, and Bluford. And with losses against CORL twice, Agape, South Central, Odin, Beecher City, Altamont, and North Clay. Wood also hit another personal milestone. On September 25 he hit 200 strikeouts during the game against Beecher City.
As the season came to close with a final record of 5-8, the team’s three seniors-Wood, Peyton, and Bryson Caudle, left their mark. For Wood, 200 strikeouts and a perfect game will stand as proof of the hard work making Wood’s performance a standout moment in the program’s history. The Indians worked to show strong teamwork and determination that they hope will follow them on to their upcoming spring season.
