Captain Marvel

Why This is More Than a Superhero Movie.

Trinity Krueger

Captain Marvel finally hit the theaters on March 8. The long awaited super heroine film hit box offices like a storm. It has already earned

more than $270M domestically and $500M overseas since it’s release. Some say the one billion dollar mark is in sight as well.

But this isn’t the average superhero film. This is a story about Carol Danvers. Carol is an officer in the Air Force when women are just starting to be integrated into the military. She shows everyone that she isn’t a force to be reckoned, using her skills later in the film to stop evil. The appearance of a strong female lead who doesn’t have a love interest is huge for women everywhere. Captain Marvel shows that women can be powerful all on their own. Or maybe with a little help from a blast of Kree energy.
