Pep Band is right around the corner and band members are getting ready for their first performance. Pep Band is not that different to prepare for from any other band performance. One of the differences is that they get to play whatever songs they want, so they practice multiple songs to choose from. Playing in a small space next to the bleachers is another difference. However, Pep Band members do not complain. They are used to it. Although, many of the members do think it would be much cooler if everyone got to watch them play. Sophomore Avery Barnard said, “It’s entertaining, but pep band can be a bit hectic at times.”
Pep Band will be different this year with their new drum set player, Nathan Barnard, taking the lead for the beat. He’s a little new to all the pep band songs though, so it may take him a while to get the hang of them. So far, most members feel he is doing a great job. He is starting to get the hang of those solos. “Learning the solos are difficult, because I’ve never played them before but it’s still fun to do,” says Senior Nathan Barnard.
There are also some new songs added to Pep Band this year. Some include, “Funky Town,” “Life is a Highway,” “Chicken Dance,” and “September.” Pep Band players are really excited for these fun new songs and they cannot wait to play them. If community members want to hear Pep Band play, they play at every home basketball game during halftime and in between games.
