Savanah Guilmot

Everyone knows that looking at the sun is dangerous but they may not know why an eclipse can be even more dangerous.

During an eclipse, the sun obstructed by the moon is not as blinding as usual and it can be tempting to watch it without any protection and that could be the error of your life. Indeed, the sun emits two kind of light — ultraviolet and infrared — which have an effect on your sight.

Ultraviolet rays will hurt your cornea in a very painful way. Fortunately, this injury is reversible but will take a few days to be completely heal. Infrared light is not as reversible as ultraviolet and can burn your retina. In fact, your eyesight can be deteriorated for the rest of your life without being painful at all. Most of the time, the consequences come a few hours after the exposure.
