How to: Care for yourself

The Steps you can Take

Gracie Musgrave

Teenagers today lead busy lives. Most students have no problems finding things to fill their schedules. Many people are involved in extracurricular activities, such as sports and clubs and will tend to overwhelm themselves.

Self care is any necessary human regulatory function which is under individual control, deliberate and self-initiated, it’s the constant repetition of many tiny habits, which together soothe you and make sure you’re at your best—emotionally, physically, and mentally. There are many things that can be done to improve the mind and the body.

To improve the mind you could create deliberate habits, and routinize something small in your life by doing it in the same way each day. Get out of your comfort zone! Do things that make you happy. Try to focus on the positive parts of your life. Another thing you can do to seriously boost your mental health is to cut out negative or unhealthy people. If you surround yourself with positive and supportive people it’s scientifically proven it boosts moods and happiness levels in people.

With a little bit of attention to your own self-care, you’ll feel more connected to yourself and the world around you. You’ll take joy in the small things, and nothing will seem quite as difficult as it did before.
