A Single Act Of Kindness

Maggie Dickey

One never knows what each day will bring, or what is around the corner with every passing moment.  Such was the case for Ohio resident, Andrea Duncan.

It had been a long day at work, and Andrea didn’t even have time to grab lunch.  Tired and hungry from a hard day, she stopped at McDonald’s to grab a quick bite to eat before heading home.  After ordering, Andrea pulled up to the window to pay and it was then she realized she had left her wallet back at work.  When she proceeded to cancel her order, the young McDonalds employee, Jeremiah, reached for his wallet. He quickly responded with, “It’s okay, ma’am, I got you,” and then paid for Andrea’s meal.  Andrea was so surprised by his act of kindness, she asked to give him a hug and took his picture. She posted the story and picture on social media in hopes that the story of his kindness would reach far and wide, and perhaps McDonald’s would respond with some sort of reward for his unselfish act.  Andrea reminded Jeremiah to, “Keep being who you are because you are an amazing person.”

Remember what one simple act of kindness can do for someone. We never know with each face we meet what is going on in each life. Jeremiah’s act of buying Andrea’s lunch was a simple gesture that made a big difference for one person.  However, there are many acts of kindness that don’t cost anything, a simple word of encouragement, a polite “hello,” or even just a smile.  Make a difference for someone today with a single act of kindness. You might just make someone’s day!
