Billie Eilish won five of the six Grammys she was nominated for the night of January 26. Billie won the four biggest categories given at the Grammys: Best New Artist, Record, Album, and Song of the Year. She also snatched the award for Best Pop Vocal Album. She is now holding the title of being the youngest singer/songwriter to be nominated for those significant categories in the same year at the age of 18. The first award Eilish won was Song of the Year. When she accepted the award, CBS News reported that Billie said, “So many other songs deserve this. I’m sorry. Thank you so much. This is my first Grammy. I never thought this would happen in my whole life.”  She accepted every award with her brother, Finneas O’Connell, who helped her write her Grammy winning album, “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” in Billie’s bedroom. Finneas also gained two Grammys for himself as well: Producer of the Year, Non-Classical and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical.

Some people had mixed emotions on all of Billie’s wins at the Grammys. “I think that Billie deserved the awards, because she is very hardworking. She is only 18 and has gained such a big audience. She is unique and tries to make her songs relatable to her listeners,” says Alexis Chapman, a Billie Eilish fan. E News reports that Billie says, “Um, can I just say I think that Ariana deserves this?” about her winning Album of the Year over Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings” when she went on stage to accept the award. Ariana did not win any awards that night and fans of Grande, Lana del Rey, and other singers nominated for this award started going to Twitter and Instagram with their frustrations of their loved singers not winning this award. “#Scammys” went viral on these social medias. Andrew White states, “I think Billie Eilish is a good artist and she is popular right now, but I feel as if others that were nominated for these awards deserved it as much as she did. Lana del Rey is an influencer to many artists that win these awards, especially Billie, but she has never won a Grammy when nominated.
