St. Louis, MO– The Wayne City Band field trip to the Renaissance Fair on Oct. 18 was shortened due to weather conditions. The bad weather did not keep the high school students from having fun and enjoying the short glimpse they got to see of life in the “1400s” era. The students later recalled that they liked the live medieval music, watching the performances and especially the jousting matches the most.
Breaking down the Renaissance Fair is a fest where people keen on the medieval time period dress up and work for different activities, booths and stands. Most of them were hand sewing their own clothes and were having fun with all the visitors, some even dancing with them. There were food stands and all kinds of shows, as well as a petting zoo that featured exotic animals, like baby snakes or kangaroos. Some of the volunteers sang and played medieval instruments that most people rarely get to hear nowadays.
“There were people playing with medieval instruments, and it was overall really interesting,” junior Noah Groom said. Like most of the class, Groom thought the jousting was the most fun part of their field trip. “It was really fun, hopefully next year it will not rain as much,” Isaac Caldwell said. “We actually had to leave early, because of the rain.”
A lot of the band kids go each year like Mandolin Mooney, who has been going for the past four years. She says it is one of the most enjoyable activities during the school year. “Dancing with a Pirate named Jack was so funny. We had the best time,” she said.
The trip was really educational while the class had a lot of fun experiencing and observing life from the “1400s.” The trip was overall successful and bonded band members together, leaving a great atmosphere for future plays and projects.
